So they often shine in every other area as well. Plus dragon typing has both strong physical and special moves.ĭragon is an excellent defensive type. So don’t discredit how valuable neutral coverage is. Only fairy and steel are resistant or immune. Being able to hit neutral on nearly every type is fantastic. No doubt about it.ĭespite Dragon type not being super effective on any types except dragon it’s still an exceptionally good offensive typing. Not enough types threatened Dragon, and Game Freak was trying to bring it more in line with the rest of the types.ĭragon types are amazing. but Dragons usually have access to Fire moves to deal with both Steel and Ice. Ice was therefore the only safe bet against Dragons.
As such, the Pokemon running Dragon moves are usually Dragons themselves, and it's inherently risky to pit them against another Dragon, since you'd be incurring the same disadvantage. The exception is Dragon Tail, which gets used for its utility and not its mediocre power. Dragon-type moves are rarely run on non-Dragon Pokemon, because without STAB, there's little reason to devote a move slot to something that won't give you better coverage (and since Dragon's only SE against one type, it usually won't). It wasn't super effective against anything but itself, but it would hit anything else but Steel-types for neutral damage.ĭefensively, their only threats were Ice and Dragon before Gen VI. If you don't take Dragon-types' typically high stats into account, this made an all-rounder when it came to offense. Up until Fairy, Dragon was resisted by only a single type. Would love to hear everyone’s opinions about this! If they were a more “typical” type, with good & bad Pokémon representing them, I think they would be considered the worst type, by far. The reason people think the Dragon Type is so powerful, in my opinion, is because that most fully evolved Dragons have very high stats. However, since most Dragons are dual typed, this isn’t even usually a problem. The ONLY thing the Dragon Type has going for it is its resistances to Water, Fire, Grass, & Electric. Normal isn’t super effective against anything, but I would still consider them as better since they only have one weakness, to fighting. For one, Dragon is only Super Effective against other Dragons, but we already have Ice & Fairy to take care of dragons, who don’t have to worry about taking a super effective dragon type hit. Dragon types are supposed to be the strongest types in the entire game, but in my opinion they are one of, if not the absolute weakest.
